Achieve Lifestyle were delighted to welcome a royal visit from HRH the Duke of Kent KG on 5th March 2019 who announced the £20m flagship facility Egham Orbit, as officially open. The royal opening marked the milestone of a completed and now fully operational community hub for sports, health and wellbeing; both well-deserved and well-received by the local community. Speaking at the official launch event, the Duke of Kent said: "I have never seen such a centre, it is very grand. It is a wonderful place and I am sure it is going to be a success."

Formed in April 2011, Achieve Lifestyle is a community leisure trust with charitable status, who manage Egham Orbit under lease from Runnymede Borough Council. Hazel Aitken Chief Executive of Achieve Lifestyle added: “The leisure trust’s key aim is to seek to improve community wellbeing, and by the opening of this new centre, there is much more access and opportunity available for the wider community, particularly for swimming and wellbeing activities. Achieve Lifestyle are very proud of their association to this great venture and are looking forward to the evolving future of Egham Orbit”.

With a range of activities, including a 100 station fitness gym, four group exercise studios, children’s soft play, sports arena and Otium Spa with relaxation suite and hydro pool, Egham Orbit has been designed and built with inclusivity in mind. Paul Turrell, Chief Executive of Runnymede Borough Council said: "When the Council decided to build a state-of-the-art leisure centre in the north of the borough, we knew it had to cater for the whole community to really succeed, so I'm happy to see the range of activities available.”

Egham Orbit is home to Runnymede’s first public swimming pool with a 25m x 17m main pool, 10m x 10m smaller pool and splash zone.

Achieve Lifestyle have worked closely with local disability swimming group Egham Constellations to provide accessible facilities for their sessions, enabling disabled local residents to have the opportunity to swim in a safe and welcoming environment.

Pauline Carter, treasurer of Egham Constellations explained: “The special feature of both pools is that the pool floor can be slowly raised or lowered. If the floors are fully raised, waterproofed wheelchairs can simply be positioned on the pool floor before it slowly descends. An electric hoist is also available. Wheelchair users can be gently lowered in and lifted out which helps them float out of their water chair, where they can benefit from less weight bearing exercise.”

Egham Orbit is keen to aim to cater for all, other activities on offer currently include the Get Active scheme for GP exercise referrals, group exercise classes including aqua classes, back to netball sessions, children’s swim lessons and coaching for gymnastics and trampolining, plus many clubs including volleyball, football, badminton and martial arts.
